William Diehl: Spies, Thrillers and the Martin Vail Trilogy

William Diehl probably didn't achieve recognition with the general public until Primal Fear became a hit movie with Richard Gere starring as an arrogant Chicago attorney. Some of us have been enjoying his talent for a long time. Whether describing the bustle of the City with Broad Shoulders, the forelorness of Kentucky coal country, or the awesome beauty of Big Sky Country, William Diehl makes you feel as though you know the place. If you like legal stories or action thrillers, give one of his books a try.
Primal Fear
The first of the Martin Vail trilogy, the book is (as usual) much better than the movie -- and the movie was not bad at all for a book adaptation. Evil takes a human face and its name is Aaron Stampler.
Show of Evil
A new series of crimes has Stampler's name all over the place -- but isn't he under lock and key?
Reign in Hell
Martin Vail is asked to become an Assistant Attorney General to rein in a hate group before it is too late. Diehl creates many interesting characters in this book, both in leading and supporting roles.
Chameleon
An interesting action/thriller/mystery.
The Hunt
This book was titled 27 when I read it. A Nazi sleeper agent is activiated and goes after the cream of American society. Great ending, I wish someone would film this.
Thai Horse
Another action/thriller/mystery, much of it in Southeast Asia. I guessed what the "Horse" in the title was before I read the book -- can you?
Sharky's Machine
You can probably catch the Burt Reynolds' movie on late night.
