As I am sure most of you know, FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions.

Guidelines

I don't have to agree with what you say, but you are more likely to appear here if you tell me something I didn't know. Attitude is cool, disrespect for others is not. Please no Bill/Monica/Tripp opinion pieces or more stuff about how the Boomers screwed up the world for GenX -- unless you have one helluva original idea. Essays, poetry, articles, short stories, etc. on almost any subject (serious or not) will be considered. Book, music, and video reviews are welcome. Tell me about the environment, baseball, politics, living and working in various places, whatever. My full-time job is software consulting, so you will see a lot of related articles.

Another subject I am interested in is divorce reform. I finished a book about my divorce experience, giving advice within the framework of the story as lyrics are accentuated by music. I tried unsuccessfully to find an agent or publisher so I am going to epublish (probably "Publish on Demand") the book myself. I would have loved to have had this information in 1994, I know the market and need for the book is huge even if the publishers don't see it. Watch this site for news of its availability. Please read my editorial on divorce reform, but briefly, the inconsistency of the laws from state to state, and even between judges in the same courthouse, is outrageous. These men (mostly) sit in their robes as gods in their courtrooms and make whatever judgements they wish. Even if you have no desire to write something formal, I would like to hear your story.

Injustice in all its forms totally pisses me off (to be blunt about it.) I have been to Wyoming, and I recommend a visit to everyone. But I cannot express my disgust that a young college student is beaten to death because he happens to be gay (which I'm not, by the way.) The peoples of this great nation seem to be at polar opposites on so many issues besides the acceptance of gays and lesbians. I strongly support a woman's right to choose BUT I do not believe that abortion is a suitable method of birth control. I'm not sure what the solutions are to dilemmas like these (certainly education is part of the answer); have any ideas?

Have you noticed the erosion of our constitutional rights? (In case you haven't figured it out yet, I'm a civil libertatian.) A recent example comes from Iowa. The police there have the right to search your person and your vehicle if you are stopped for any reason no matter how trivial. Now I can see where Officers are concerned because they never know what they are in for when making a traffic stop these days. However, what they are doing in Iowa seems a clear violation of our protection against unreasonable search and seizure as I interpret the constitution (no law degree here, but we forget the underlying principle of the constitution is "we the people" -- with or without law degrees.) I invite opposing and supporting viewpoints; educate me!

And I guess that is the bottom line -- let's learn more about these issues from each other, without personal attacks, and who knows; maybe something positive will come of this.

By the way, as much as I would like to, I obviously cannot publish a list of contract companies that screw people over or other such $%%$#%&. So feel free to name names to me and everyone you know but I cannot "print" it here; I can't handle the legal fees. But boy, would I love to print such a list!!

Because I do not have a lot of time, I cannot type or retype your work. Please send as a HTML file or a Word doc if at all possible. Alternative is good ole TXT. If you send me paper, I'll read it, but it might not ever make it to these pages. If this becomes a full-time endeavor, then this policy will change. Thanks.

What about payment, rights to my work, etc.?

I cannot at this point afford to pay authors, as much as I would like to. You will note that a lot of print mags pay only in copies. Unlike some ezines I've seen, you retain the right to resell your work; i.e., Suck It! Webzine gets what would be called "First North American Serial Rights" if this were a print mag. Your work will appear for 30 days or so and then be removed, and then you may resell it if you wish and I hope you do.
