Many of you have probably read Story; if not on a regular basis, then perhaps when you felt the need for good fiction. Story contained some of the best writing ever.
If you go through the back issues, you will find many famous names -- most of them appearing before they were famous. Story has always been open to new writers and is consistently listed by Writer's Digest as one of the best markets for writers.
I recently made a submission to Story and was distressed to receive a reply that was more than just a "not right for us" note. There was a brief form from the editor explaining that the Winter issue will be their last.
I will miss the great writing. And all writers have lost another place to be discovered.
Let's hope another quality publication will take its place. And if it does, let's all support it better.
