Big Brother Update: Computer Bugs

Please note this brief article is a follow-up to previous editorials. I will try to keep you informed of privacy and other issues as I become aware of new developments.

The Department of Justice has requested that it be given additional powers to break into your home and disable the security features of your PC.

They say this is necessary because they cannot monitor the computer activity of criminals.

My response is two-fold. First, there are existing procedures for officials to use in combatting crime. I am not sure why they feel additional powers are needed to break into your home, steal your passwords, and disable file encryption. I'm sure they can get warrants to do that now if they have sufficient cause.

The problem I have: I just do not trust the DOJ, or any government agency, with any additional Big Brother-type powers, especially in an environment in which the courts are no longer protecting the rights of individuals but are giving the State everything it asks for.

I suggest that you let people know your feelings on this proposal.
