Favorite Eastwood Flicks

The Outlaw Josey Wales (DVD)
The Outlaw Josey Wales (VHS)
(1976) This might be my favorite after The Unforgiven. A young Sondra Locke is featured as the woman who helps a man regain his humanity that was stipped by the horrors of war.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (DVD)
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (VHS)
(1967) Maybe the best of the speghetti wasterns.

Absolute Power(DVD)
Absolute Power (VHS)
(1997) Abuse of power in the oval office by a sexually obsessed Chief Executive? Never happen! Gene Hackman plays a major-league SOB better than anyone, in contrast to Eastwood's counter-hero character, almost recapturing the magic in The Unforgiven.

Complete Dirty Harry Box Set (VHS)
Make your day - or, as a gift, the day of any Eastwood fan.

The Dead Pool (VHS)
(1988) This is dark, even for an Eastwood movie. Nasty stuff. Love it!

Dirty Harry(DVD)
Dirty Harry (VHS)
(1971) Did this start the sub-genre of hero cops who bend the law, piss off their bosses, and kick all the ass? Lethal Weapon and scores of other movies (and even TV shows) owe a debt to this film.

Firefox (VHS)
(1982) I loved this Cold War flick. Again, Eastwood portrays a flawed sort-of hero who overcomes his problems in the end. I liked the portrayal of the Russians who helped him in the beginning and the villians were well-acted characterizations as well. Not an Oscar-class movie, but a helluva entertaining film that a lot of people seemed to have missed. Rent it, love it, and then come back here to buy it -- Thanks!

Hang 'Em High (DVD)
Hang 'Em High (VHS)
(1967) Another outstanding Western.

High Plains Drifter(DVD)
High Plains Drifter (VHS)
(1973) For some reason, I appreciate this movie more since I have finally made it the high plains. Strongly recommend the area as a tourist destination and this movie, which I feel foreshawdowed the greatness of Pale Rider and The Unforgiven.

Play Misty for Me (VHS)
(1971) Clint portrays a disc jockey stalked by a fan that makes his life hell. Has any other film shown a man's life being ruined by a female stalker?

The Unforgiven(DVD)
The Unforgiven (VHS)
(1992) This incredible film is also noted under my alltime favorites, as you may have seen on the main page. Gene Hackman perfectly portrays a corrupt lawman, blatantly displaying abuse of power throughout the film. Retired gunslinger Eastwood picks up his revolvers again to seek justice for those who have no hope of justice - for a price. Even if you ignore the symbolism and metaphor - which many I know somehow manage to do - it is one great story. If you do not watch Westerns, but care about the general unfairness of life (do you like Les Miserables?), then try this one out.
